VISA APPLICATION AND MORE INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR TRIP TO BRAZIL A visa is required for American citizens to visit Brazil. Passports should be valid for six months from the intended date of arrival in Brazil. Visas are generally processed in one to five working days. They can be obtained through the nearest Brazilian Consulate. One passport-sized photograph, along with a round trip ticket and a duly completed application form, are required to apply for a visas. Tourist visas are valid for multiple Entries up to 90 days. Business/Professional visas are valid for multiple entries up to five years. TRAVEL BY A MINOR Legal Norm: People under eighteen years of age (“minor”), who are traveling unaccompanied or in the company of one parent or of third parties, will only be allowed into or out of Brazil when duly authorized by: *both parents or legal guardians: or *the parent who is not accompanying the minor in the trip; or *a court of justice. Procedures: Legalization at this Consular Service of a written authorization, duly signed and notarized by a Notary Public. Please make sure the Notary Public has his/her signature field at this Consular Service. Brazilian parents are not required to have their signatures authenticated by a Notary Public, as long as they bring to the Consular Service, in person, the authorization for legalization. A consular fee of US$20.00 is charged to legalize each authorization. Personal checks are not accepted. The Consular Service will take only money orders or certified checks made out to the Brazilian Embassy. Documents submitted by mail must have a self-addressed, stamped envelope for the return of papers enclosed. For express delivery, the Consular Service will accept only prepaid Express Mail. The Consular Service will not be held responsible for documents sent by mail. This document must be attached to the minor’s passport.
